3/30 Weekly Message

Good evening parents, this is Principal Tonya Williams with our weekly message.  Thank you all for your patience during this unprecedented time.  As you know, some decisions are made at the local level, some at the state, and some at the federal level.  While there is still some unknown, I do have some information for parents and students.

Beginning Monday, April 6, we will begin Phase 2 of our instructional program, which includes new learning.  Teachers will reach out to families this week to determine who has access to devices and the internet for remote online learning and who will need paper copies of work.  Once that number is determined, we hope to develop a plan for paper copy pick up and drop off.  Please let your teacher and/or counselor know if you have a specific circumstance that prevents your child from completing assignments remotely.  Teachers will also set up their out of office message if they are unable to provide students with remote learning opportunities.    Teachers will also have office hours beginning, Monday, April 6.  All teacher office hours will be listed on our homepage at riverside.dpsnc.net.

Durham Tech students, please be aware that Durham Tech classes have been paused while the campus converted to on-line instruction.  Be ready to resume your classes on Monday, 3/30/20.  You can also watch this section of our website, https://www.durhamtech.edu/campus-police-and-public-safety/emergency-procedures/coronavirus-student-resources, for updates.  Watch your email daily for any updates from the campus or your instructors.

Prospective National Honor Society students and families: the Spring NHS acceptance period and induction ceremony has been postponed until Fall 2020. Any student who was invited to apply can still submit online per the invitation instructions but results and acceptances will not be finalized until Fall 2020. Previously submitted applications and teacher recommendation forms will be saved for the Fall application period. Please contact NHS advisor Victoria Watson at Victoria_watson@dpsnc.net if you have further questions.

Are you looking for FREE options to keep your student/s & family reading during this time? Ms. Mester, our Library Media Specialist, has curated a collection of resources that can be found at bit.ly/riversidereads. Her contact information can be found on the link if you have any questions.

Please not hesitate to contact any of us if you have questions or concerns.  Sending positive thoughts to all of you.  Roll Pirates Roll!
