Good evening Riverside families, this is Principal Tonya Williams with your weekly message. I continue to send positive thoughts to our entire school community.
On April 23, the NC State Board of Education approved an end-of-year grading policy for students in Grades 9 through 11. Please know guidance from Durham Public Schools and Riverside High School is forthcoming and will be based on the policy from the state. Expect more information next week.
Any senior failing a course required for graduation or college/university admission who did not have a passing grade by April 24 should continue to work on the remote learning opportunities provided by their teacher. They should also be in direct contact with their teacher and counselor.
Seniors, applications are still being accepted to Durham Tech for fall enrollment. Your Durham Tech College Liaison, Ms. Valarie Hines can help you. Call, text, or email her. She will help with your application, financial aid, and many more college-related issues. She can even set up a video meeting with you. Do not delay; advising for Fall 2020 is happening now! (919) 943-2553 or hinesv@durhamtech.edu
We know your student’s academic success is important to you, and in times like these, you probably have questions about their current grades. Due to school closures, we are unable to provide hard copy report cards at this time. If you need access to Powerschool to view your child’s report card, then please contact their 2nd period teacher. Report cards will be finalized on May 4. Please also feel free to reach out to individual teachers regarding progress.
Remote learning opportunities continue to be available for students, as it is important for us to provide meaningful student learning and engagement during the school closing period. Please view all teachers Learning Plans on our website for office hours, how to access assignments and contact information.
Durham Public Schools is offering virtual review sessions for the upcoming Advanced Placement exams. Session registration closes at midnight on May 1. Please contact your child’s AP Teacher for more information.
As you all know, Governor Cooper closed schools for the remainder of the school year last week. We will have information about graduation and end-of-year procedures (yearbook distribution, uniform collection, textbook collection, etc.) soon. Caps and Gowns will be distributed to seniors on May 4th from 11:00-1:00 in front of the school.
Thank you for your continued support!!! I hope you all have a great week! Roll Pirate Roll!
