Good evening Riverside families, this is Principal Tonya Williams with your weekly message. I certainly hope you all are staying safe and healthy!
We have a lot to celebrate! In case you missed it on Social Media and the news, Riverside High School’s Project Lead the Way Program was named a PLTW Distinguished School for the third year in a row!!! Thank you to the staff and parents for partnering to make our PLTW Program successful for our students. We also want to celebrate, Ms. Mester, our Media Coordinator. She was named Durham Public Schools Media Coordinator of the Year!!!!
I want to provide an update on senior events. Last Friday was Decision Day, and we created a video to celebrate our senior accomplishments. Please check out the video on our website. We are creating a Virtual Award’s Day to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020. We will send out the video when it is completed at the end of May. We will host a virtual prom on Friday, May 29. I will share more details once we have them. We will host a graduation ceremony at Riverside High School on June 11th. We are still in the planning phase, as we want to ensure that we follow social distancing protocols. Once we have the plan in place, we will communicate the plan with families and students, but please mark your calendars for graduation on June 11th. Please don’t forget that cap and gown distribution is tomorrow from 11-1 in the carpool circle. Seniors should also bring textbooks and library books tomorrow.
May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Your Pirate PTA wants to encourage everyone to show our pirate pride for all of our staff. Parents and students are asked to share messages of thanks to teachers directly and post supportive messages on social media. We are also providing a $20 gift card to every staff member. If you want to contribute, please go to rhspirates.memberhub.store.
Want to make a difference for Riverside? We are looking for some adventurous and caring pirate parents to be a part of our PTA leadership team for 2020-2021. We will have 2 open Vice President positions along with a few other great ways to serve. Contact Wes Neal nominating committee Chair at matsenneal@gmail.com.
I will have more information on final grading for students in grades 9-11 this week, so be on the lookout for a special message regarding grading for students in 9th-11th grade.
I hope everyone has a great week!!! Roll Pirates Roll!
